About Andrew Talbot Design

I’ve been designing and creating websites for businesses for more than 25 years.

A lot has changed in that time. The devices we use, the way people search, the technology behind websites and, increasingly, the role of AI in how businesses are discovered.

One thing hasn’t changed.

A good website still needs to understand its audience, communicate clearly and give people a reason to take the next step.

That’s what I concentrate on.

One person. Start to finish.

Andrew Talbot Design is deliberately small.

When we discuss your project, you’re talking to the person who will actually work on it. There isn’t a sales team at the beginning, an account manager in the middle and somebody you’ve never met doing the work at the end.

I handle the strategy, structure, design and development myself.

That makes communication simpler, but it also means the thinking behind a project doesn’t get lost as it moves between different departments.

If something needs changing, we talk about it.

If I think something could work better, I’ll tell you.

And if there’s a simpler solution than the one we originally considered, I’d rather recommend that than create complexity you don’t need.

Good design isn’t about adding more. It’s about understanding what matters.

More than how a website looks

Visual design matters enormously, but it is only one part of creating an effective website.

I think about how somebody arrives, what they need to understand, where they should go next and what might prevent them from making contact or buying.

That means considering:

  • Content and information structure
  • User experience
  • Search visibility
  • Mobile performance
  • Accessibility
  • Page speed
  • Conversion and enquiry journeys
  • Ongoing maintenance

These aren’t separate jobs bolted onto a design afterwards.

They influence the design from the beginning.

Experience is useful when it stays curious

Working in web design for more than 25 years means I’ve seen plenty of trends arrive, become essential and quietly disappear again.

Experience helps you recognise what matters.

But this is also an industry where standing still isn’t an option.

Search continues to change. AI is changing the way people find and evaluate businesses. Mobile applications can provide opportunities that wouldn’t make sense as conventional websites. Expectations around speed, usability and privacy continue to develop.

I enjoy that.

The aim isn’t to chase every new technology. It’s to understand which developments are genuinely useful and apply them where they can make something better.

Based in Bristol. Working beyond it.

I’m based near Bristol and have worked with businesses across Bristol, Bath, North Somerset and much further afield.

Over the years those clients have ranged from professional services and specialist engineering businesses to retailers, designers, healthcare organisations and independent companies.

Some need a completely new website.

Others need an existing website reconsidered, better search visibility, an ecommerce operation improved or an idea turned into an app.

The industries vary, but the underlying questions are remarkably similar:

What are we trying to achieve?

Who are we trying to reach?

And what can we make clearer, easier or more useful?

Websites that can grow with the business

I don’t believe a website should become obsolete the moment it launches.

The structure needs to accommodate new services, projects and ideas. Content should be straightforward to manage. Search visibility should have room to develop. And the design shouldn’t depend on a passing trend to look relevant.

That’s one reason I’ve worked with some clients for many years.

A website might begin the relationship, but it doesn’t necessarily end there.
